SMITHCLIFFS

SMITHCLIFFS WAS ONCE AN AIRFIELD, PART OF
"THE RIGHT STUFF" STORY

The legend began before there was a Coast Highway. Mrs Caroline Dobbins, bought the property in 1915 and built a home there in 1918," recalls Jeanne Kuwalsky, from her home in Emerald Terrace.

According to Mrs. Kuwalsky, Mrs Dobbins added a summer cottage for her daughter. The Coast Highway was built in 1926. The Smithcliff name comes from Mr. Lon Smith, an oilman who owned the property from 1951 until its purchase in 1985 by Gary Brinderson. It has been the site of several movie and television shoots, including the classic film "Wuthering Heights".
