NEWPORT HEIGHTS

BOUNDARIES:

The neighborhood is bordered by Pacific Coast Highway and Newport Boulevard, 15th Street and Irvine Avenue.

   

HOMES:

Approximately 1,000

   

STYLE:

Well diversified, with custom houses but no tract homes. Some remodeling and new construction. Homes are single or two level.

   

BUILDERS:

James Ray was a well known builder in the 1940's and 50's, but over the last 40 or so years home have been mainly built by individual builders.

   

AGE:

First homes were built around 1914.

   

FEATURES:

Along with views of the ocean, harbor and/or bay from many of the properties, Newport Heights prides itself on being a close knit community.

Many of the homeowners have been there for decades. The neighborhood is safe and excellent for children, with parks and three schools within walking distance. Newport Heights is a popular Halloween and Christmas location, with houses and entire streets decorated for the festivities.

There are also three Cliff Drive Parks, perfect for picnics and the annual Memorial Day celebration.

Interestingly, there are no street lights in the neighborhood, except for on portions of Santa Ana Avenue and San Bernardino.

 

 

SCHOOLS:

Students may walk to either Newport Heights Elementary, Ensign Junior High or Newport Harbor High School.

 

 

SHOPPING:

Plenty of options for restaurants and stores exist north or south on Pacific Coast Highway, along Newport Boulevard or 17th Street, or a few minutes away by car at Fashion Island.
