BEACON BAY: QUAINT AMBIANCE

BOUNDARIES:

This private community is adjacent to Harbor Island and accessed from Harbor Island Road. Bayfront properties have front row views of North Bayfront, Balboa Island, the turning basin and Harbor Island.

HISTORY:

In 1927, the land that is now Beacon Bay was almost leased to a marine engineer manufacturer to accommodate a factory. The bay north of Balboa Island was to be used as a testing channel for speedboats. Balboa Island residents opposed this proposed use. Instead, the land was leased to J.A. Beek in 1927 in consideration for dredging, filling and installation of utilities. Residential lots began selling in the mid -1930s and by 1950, Beacon Bay was nearly completed.

HOMES:

There are less that 100 homes in Beacon Bay, Zoning provides for restricted R1.5-R2, but most properties are used as single family residences. Homes on the grass estradas are situated so that each may have a view towards the bay. All but three of the bayfront homes are on the sand with wonderful views of sunset and harbor activity. The other three homes are located on the bay with private docks. Lot sizes are predominantly one and one-half times the average size of most lots close to the bay.

STYLE:

All homes are custom built with a variety of architectural styles. Created as vintage beach homes, there is a combination of classic New England architecture and traditional East and West Coast beach cottage design.
